The Woodsman and the Wolf - J. Fields Jr. A short, yet extremely powerful story. J. Fields has a style that “shows” very well, rather than tells. I could easily visualize the house, the barn, the cellar. I was totally immersed in his setting. I lost myself completely in the story. The characters were well drawn given the length of the story. The dialogue felt natural and the fear was palpable. I was unnerved in the best way. This is a fresh take on a well-worn theme, done with a skill that has me thinking Mr. Fields will be a household name in the future. Definitely on my watch list now.
